18-Wheeler Wreck Shuts Highway

11/3/2009 6:22 a.m.
A tandem trailer jacknifed and overturned before dawn Tuesday morning and shut down a major highway in both directions.
Around 5 a.m. a FedEx truck was heading east on Highway 80 in Sunnyvale through a construction zone when the back trailer flipped, clipped the median and ripped open.
Debris and packages from the trailer flew into the westbound lanes and shut them down as well.
FOX 4's Chip Waggoner said there are no service roads in that part of Highway 80, so people who are stuck in those lanes of Highway 80 were basically trapped.
As of 7 a.m., the trailers and debris were still at the scene. A diesel spill slowed the cleanup, said FOX 4's Adrian Arambulo.
He recommended people trying to go westbound should take Lawson to Scyene, or FM 740 to I-20.
If you're trying to go eastbound, avoid Highway 80 at all costs. Waggoner says motorists should go south to I-20 as quickly as possible.
